Well Toto, I don't think we're in Utah anymore

SO, this one time I decided to do something COMPLETELY outside of my comfort zone. Something completely random, stressful, and requiring me to really break out of my shell.  This is the story of how I became a waitress.

Near my stepmom's apartment, like literally across the street, a new Cajun restaurant opened about a
month ago.  Motivated by adventure and hunger, my dad, Amy, and I went there a few nights ago to try out the food.  Despite being so new, this place was packed. The three of us shared raw oysters, fried oysters, fried shrimp and wings.  Shockingly, it was absolutely delicious.  They really know how to eat in Louisiana.  Whilst we were eating my dad asked the manager, "Hey so are you guys hiring? My daughter's looking for a job for a couple months."  To which the manager replied, "Actually, yeah. I'll get you an application.  Could you come in for an interview tomorrow?"  Thanks dad.
Long (boring) story short, I was hired on the spot.  But since I have no waitressing experience it's kinda just on a temporary/trial basis.  If I can pick it up quickly, I guess I get to keep working. If not, well it's the boot.  No pressure right?

My first day of training was Tuesday and yesterday was my first day of shadowing another waiter. Basically, I'm completely out of my element.  The biggest challenge so far is the whole bar scene. It's... well, foreign to me. Guys, such a vast ocean of information has been unleashed to me. It's a whole new world.  A dazzling place I never knew. Needless to say, when I came home from school for the summer I thought I was done studying.  Not so my friends.  Because I don't drink I have to memorize all this alcohol info from scratch. So, I've been making flash cards. I've pretty much got the draft and bottled beers down. But as for the cocktails I've had to resort to drastic measures....I hope my bishop doesn't pop in for a sudden visit...

No, no. Not that drastic. Just you know, drawing pictures of alcohol.

I always wondered how my friend Mushroom knew so much about liquid refreshment.  It's just the way of the server.  That's how we do. We know our drinks and how to garnish them. Bajajaja (that's me laughing in Spanish). I got to serve my first beers yesterday.  Two Northern Lights IPAs, in case you were wondering.
This is what I get to wear for this job: Black!

Anywho...besides getting to learn about alcohol, I've just had a ton of serving knowledge thrust on me at once and it's kind of overwhelming.  I know with a little practice and a lot of confidence I can totally do this.  But I can't help but feel like this by the time I get home:

My coworkers are really nice and it's a really chill environment to work in.  But again...totally un-me.  I mean anyone who knows me knows that I'm not the most outgoing person.  So, I guess this is a good thing, because it's forcing me outside of my comfort zone.  Still...very challenging.  I'm just taking it one day at a time.  When I'm feeling less frazzled and have gotten the hang of things I'll have more entertaining blog posts, for sure. For now, I'm just trying to let it all sink in.
