I'm an International Harvester

Howdy! This weekend I had the remarkable opportunity to go to my first ever country concert with my home girl Emily. The concert was the kick off event for the annual Colorado Springs Rodeo.   Yeeeehaw!

Of course we dressed up like country folk
Meanwhile back at the ranch.... (never was there a more fitting conjunction)

A woman named Heidi Newfield opened the concert.  I had never heard of her before the concert but, as it turns out, she has a really great voice and is the ridiculously skilled at the harmonica (of all instruments).  Apparently, she thinks a piano is something used for sitting on though.

This is she
The next person to rustle up some tunes on the stage was....you guessed it....Joe Nichols! Although I didn't necessarily recognize his name at first, I did recognize a few of his songs from the radio, such as "Gimmie That Girl."  He had a nice sound, but I will be the first to admit that I'm not really a huge fan.  Let's just say that the theme of 99% of his songs is also the theme of another well known "musician's" songs.  That's right, if I didn't know any better I'd say that Joe Nichols listens to a lot of Ke$ha, or possibly vice versa, because both love to sing about beer (although, let's be honest....isn't that what most country music is about?).  His closing song was, "Tequila Makes her Clothes Fall Off."  Need I say more?  Yes.  I just need to mention that nearly everyone in the audience raised, not one but, two glasses to that song.  I guess I can't be surprised that so much drinking went on at a country concert, but still.....I just hope all of the double-fisted drinkers brought along a designated driver.  I think the most entertaining part of Joe Nichols part in the show was when the guy in front of me turned around and said something to me with a huge smile on his face and I literally could not understand a word he was saying.

This is he
Finally, the moment I had been waiting for came when Joe Nichols left the stage and the headliner and his band came on.  The headlining artist was someone that I did know well, someone who sings one of my favorite country songs....none other than....Craig Morgan! Craig Morgan is quite the entertainer.  It was just fun watching him on the stage because he actually looked like he was having fun. Among my favorites of the night were "Little Bit of Life", "Amazing Grace," and "302 South Maple Avenue."  I love his songs because they are moving, powerful, and have a way deeper message than "Drink up!".  Of course, my absolute favorite song was his closing number, "International Harvester," which is probably his most popular radio hit.  Needless to say...the man is brilliant.

the one...the only....Craig Morgan!

This weekend was a blast and half.  In my opinion, nothing beats a night out with good friends, enjoying some good quality music.  As a side note, I also was reassured in my childhood dream of marrying a cowboy while at the concert.  I mean....you can't go wrong with a guy in plaid and cowboy boots...but I may just be biased because of my Wyoming-esque upbringing.

I mean look at that....is that not the cutest thing you've ever seen?
Haha.  Besides that....I also have a greater desire to own a truck one day.  I'm not really sure why, but for some reason, it seems like a good thing to have.  Well, that's about it.  Time to mosey on out of here!
